The Chick Lit Cookbook: A Guide to Writing Your Novel in 30 Minutes a Day

I have a confession! I love chick lit. Love love love it. I devour it and have since I was about 16. After 10 years (make that 11 years) of chick lit love (addiction), I decided to write a guide to writing it. Because I’m also a writing teacher!

It took me a long time to put two and two together and realize that I could write about chick lit…in part because I am shy about my love for the genre. Jennifer Weiner and Jonathan Franzen are always fighting about it, or something. But smart women (and I’m sure men) like chick lit because it is entertaining and well-written. Chick lit is

smart. So if no one has ever given you permission to be a fan of both Franzen’s The Corrections and, say, Emily Giffin’s Something Borrowed, here you go. They are both about terrible people trying to live fulfilling lives. They are both somewhat depressing and somewhat entertaining. They’re both pretty darn long.

Anyway, my book, the Chick Lit Cookbook, is a guide for people interested in writing chick lit. Particularly for those who are pressed for time. The book is available at Smashwords and you can read updates on the book’s website, chicklitcookbook.tumblr.com. If you happen to be interested in a review copy, send me an email and I will give you a free coupon code.

I published the Chick Lit Cookbook with the lovely Kelly Rizzetta of KMR Publishing. She did all of the editing and formatting, and I will be doing a post sometime soon about how awesome it is to work with another person. Because it is so. Awesome. You do the writing and they do the not-writing.
